Welfare Officer
For those of you who don’t know me, a quick resume’
I joined 26 AES in Oct 80 from Gibraltar Barracks, and apart from a couple of brief spells with 34 Fld Sqn and 6 HQ Sqn, at Waterbeach and Tidworth respectively and I spent my career serving with armoured engineers. I left the Army in May 03 and settled in Bovington, having served three tours with 32 AER, in BATUS and at Bovington as an Instructor, Support Troop SSgt, RE Wing QMSI and as SMI in the Training Development Team.
Earlier this year our chairman asked if I was willing to take over from Mick Hoare, who has served us extremely well as welfare officer, and I gladly accepted and will endeavour to serve you as well as Mick did.
I am supported as the Welfare Officer by a number of local volunteers who each have an area of the country to look after. At a later date and with their permission their contact details will be published on the website.
The role of the Welfare Officer is to provide support to branch members who need it in whatever form is required. If you, or know of any members who need our support or who are experiencing difficulties and you think we can help, please get in contact with myself or any of the area representatives and provide some details of the issue at hand. We will then follow up the report and offer assistance if needed. Some of our members may be reluctant to seek the help of others; we are here to help each other in our hour of need, so keep an ear to the ground and let us know. Any request for help will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
As always it was great to see old friends and meet some new ones at Bournemouth this year. For those I have yet to become acquainted with, I look forward to meeting you at future re-unions, and I wish you all well for the future.
I would like to thank Mick for all his past hard work on behalf of the Branch.
Regards,
Terry Gibson
