Dear
Future Member
On
behalf of the committee and myself may I take this opportunity
to welcome you to the Armoured Engineers Branch of the Royal
Engineers Association. You are most probably aware that in 2001,
the official Armoured Engineer Branch of the Royal Engineers
Association was formed and for us to function properly as a
branch and to represent both past and present Armoured Engineers
properly, regardless of their rank or needs, we need the unstinting
support of everyone.
The
Enrolment Procedure.
This is a simple procedure where you will be required to complete
both an Armoured Engineer Branch Membership form and
an Royal Engineer Association membership form. We also require
an up to date passport size photograph for your REA ID card,
please write your army number, name and rank on its reverse,
this together with your initial membership subscription payment
are then forwarded to me (even if you are already an REA member).
Armoured
Engineer Branch Membership fees.
Current membership fees are an initial joining fee of £10 and
an annual subscription of £5. This is to be used for the setting
up and the day-to-day running costs of the Branch.
Membership
fees Exclusions.
As with any branch there are always people to whom we are grateful.
In our case this is extended to all Assault Engineers of World
War II, who were in service at the cessation of hostilities
in both the UK Assault Squadrons and those of 28 Assault Squadron,
New Zealand Engineers. These members have been granted Life
Membership. This is to show our thanks and appreciation, for
without them the Armoured Engineers may not be here today. If
there are any widows of ex armoured engineers, who wish to join
the branch as ‘Friends of the Branch’, please contact
me directly, as there is only a simple form to complete. Membership
to both Friends of the Branch and Branch Life Members is free,
so please do not send any money. Any widows joining the branch
need not complete an REA membership form.
Here
is the Armoured Engineer Branch membership form
which you will need to complete and return to me.
Royal
Engineers Association.
HQ Royal Engineers Association, Chatham, has a well-practised
system of enrolment and this procedure must be strictly followed.
All
members must fill in an application form for the Royal Engineers
Association - this also applies to those who are already members
of the Royal Engineers Association. An application form is on
the Royal Engineers Association web site, should you wish to
down load one electronically. The web site address is www.reahq.org.uk.
Please ensure that you write 'Armoured Engineers' on the form
as your branch, when you return it to the REA.
- I have
enclosed a few notes that may help you complete the application
form. I have addressed a few areas, which relate to the application
form, these may help you to complete it.
- No monies
should be sent with the REA application form. The REA will
return the form and notify you directly if further payments
are required.
- If you
are already a life or annual REA member, you will still need
to complete and return the enclosed form. This will enable
the REA to update their records.
- Serving
members are already Life Members and need only to complete
the enclosed form, but you will still need to include an up
to date photograph, with your name and number on its reverse,
please send this and your REA application form directly to
me.
- The information
that you have provided will be checked by the REA to establish
if you have contributed to the ‘days pay scheme’
whilst you were serving. If you have you will automatically
become a life member. If you have paid something into the
scheme, this will reduce the total amount that is due, which
is currently £36.00 or £18.00 if over 65. When completing
this form, please ensure that you complete the paragraph ‘I
wish to be attached to Armoured Engineers and your (name of
your local) branch. Your local branch can be found on the
reverse of this form.
- Any non-RE
personnel, who were previously attached to, or served with
the Armoured Engineers and wish to join Branch, should complete
the form and send this directly to me. I will then process
your application. Please include the regiments, or squadrons
where you served and your dates. You will also need to provide
a passport size photograph of yourself and include your name,
rank and number on its reverse.
Lastly,
by joining the Royal Engineers Association, Armoured Engineer
Branch, you will help to make it a proud and successful organisation.
Thank
you in advance
Yours sincerely
The
Branch Committee
